Khapli primary is an eco-friendly, genuine and adventurous brand with a playful yet familiar overall tone. It exists to nurture childrens’ mindsets and to form sustainable habits for life. This project was designed and conceptualised in collaboration with Anna Giddings, Lauren Gardner and Julia Anderson.
Using the post growth toolkit, We discovered that the state of wheat production is problematic and this calls for a change to be implemented. Wheat is one of the most useful and protein filled type of grain, a quality that causes it to be in high demand. We began forming a response to overproduction of wheat, exploring existing systems such as vertical farming as a starting point.
Taking inspiration from the Japanese Fuji kindergarten, we put emphasis on training sustainable habits from a young age by developing an education system in our desired imaginary.
We imagined a future with the elimination of mass production farming, where wheat plots are regenerated with trees and plots are regrown in local communities. The local villagers share close relationships through produce trade, and use waste as natural crop fertilisers.
We created a 3D Architectural model to highlight the main aspects come to life. We began by working on it as a team with Anna and Lauren then I took the initiative to complete it on my own. Given that I illustrated the overall overview of the school on Adobe Illustrator initially, I had a good understanding an a clear vision of what each sector of school grounds should look like.

To understand the brief, we brainstormed our brand’s identity and purpose. Using our findings during the ideation workshop, we decided that our brand aims to promote sustainability and unite the community through developing sustainable habits.
During the early stages of branding Khapli, I presented three routes to the group and tutors. The first had soft colour tones, the second one appealed to the active parents and the third had a sophisticated and playful visual language, becoming the route I developed further.
Taking inspiration from the Japanese Fuji kindergarten, we put emphasis on training sustainable habits from a young age by developing an education system in our desired imaginary.
Choosing our strongest route each, we presented our concepts to tutors to receive feedback and finalise a cohesive brand idnetity.
Our logo consists of two components: folding arms to express the nurturing identity of Khapli’s education system, and 3 strands of wheat to symbolise our emphasis on small scale farming and the aim to develop sustainable mindsets from a young age.
Our final brand language was a visual description of Khapli’s values: Sustainable and nurturing. We chose bold and mature that reflect nature to visually encourage both students and parents to care deeply for the planet and incorporate sustainable habits into their daily lives.
To promote lasting sustainable mindsets, we explored the option of an end of year fête which brings the our communities, the school and the local wheat farm together to celebrate their sustainable living practices and promote unity. This brand experience includes interactive activities such as crafts, competitions and an exhibition for both students and their parents, further uniting the community.
